今回、メイヨークリニック・フロリダキャンパスの兼清貴久研究室にお邪魔しました。

兼清先生とはアルツハイマー病のAβについて一緒に研究したことがありましたが、その頃から人格者で、今回も訪問を快く受け入れて下さり感謝してます。

 

世界トップレベルの研究と臨床での現場、また日本とは異なる医療制度で展開される医療の特徴を耳にすることはありますが、

実際、メイヨークリニックの環境は日本と異なり、病院といった感じを全く感じさせない空間ホスピタリティの充実を感じました。

また多職種間のつながりを非常に感じ、ホームページの情報からも病院と研究所とのつながりで再生医療といった最先端医療をどんどん組み入れて治療を行っているのが分かります。

メイヨークリニックはブレインバンクをはじめとした病理研究コア、多くのコホート研究によって支えられているバイオバンクが充実しており、基礎研究で得られた知見のフィードバックの際にも、細胞、マウスレベルからヒトレベルへのシームレスな環境があることを実感することができました。

 

 

This time, I had the opportunity to visit Dr. Takahisa Kanekiyo’s laboratory at the Mayo Clinic Florida campus.

I had previously worked with Dr. Kanekiyo on research into Alzheimer’s disease Aβ, and even back then I found him to be a person of great character. I am truly grateful that he so warmly welcomed my visit this time as well.

 

While I had heard about the world’s top-level research and clinical practice, as well as the distinctive features of a healthcare system different from Japan’s,

experiencing the Mayo Clinic environment firsthand, I found it to be completely different from Japan; the space offers a level of hospitality that doesn’t make you feel like you’re in a hospital at all.

I also strongly felt the connections among various professions, and even from information on the website, it’s clear that cutting-edge treatments like regenerative medicine are actively being incorporated through the collaboration between the hospital and the research institute.

The Mayo Clinic boasts a robust biobank supported by core pathological research such as the Brain Bank and numerous cohort studies. I was able to experience firsthand the seamless environment that allows feedback from basic research to be translated from the cellular and mouse levels directly to the human level.
