今回、メイヨークリニック・フロリダキャンパスの兼清貴久研究室にお邪魔しました。

兼清先生とはアルツハイマー病のAβについて一緒に研究したことがありましたが、その頃から人格者で、今回も訪問を快く受け入れて下さり感謝します。

世界トップレベルの研究と臨床での現場、また日本とは異なる医療制度で展開される医療の特徴を耳にすることはありますが、

実際、病院の環境は日本のそれとは異なり、病院といった感じを全く感じさせない空間ホスピタリティの充実を感じました。

また日本と異なり多職種間のつながりを非常に感じ、ホームページの情報からも病院と研究所とのつながりで再生医療といった最先端医療をどんどん組み入れて治療を行っているのが分かります。

メイヨークリニックはブレインバンクをはじめとした病理研究コア、多くのコホート研究によって支えられているバイオバンクが充実しており、基礎研究で得られた知見のフィードバックの際にも、細胞、マウスレベルからヒトレベルへのシームレスな環境を実感しました。

We visited the Mayo Clinic, Florida Campus, and Kanekiyo lab. We have heard about the world’s top-level research and clinical practice, as well as the characteristics of medical care developed in a healthcare system that is different from that of Japan.

In fact, the hospital environment is different from that of Japan, and I felt the hospitality of the space was enhanced without giving me the feeling of a hospital at all. In addition, unlike Japan, I felt a great sense of interdisciplinary ties. In fact, hospitals and research institutes are connected, and cutting-edge medical treatments such as regenerative medicine are being increasingly incorporated. Everything was exactly as I had envisioned. With a well-developed pathology research core, including a brain bank and a biobank supported by many cohort studies, I felt a seamless environment from the cell and mouse levels to the human level when feeding back findings from basic research.
